Website Overview: Moorsbus
The official website for Moorsbus (www.moorsbus.org) serves as a substantial, comprehensive digital gateway for the vital community-driven bus network that connects passengers across the North York Moors National Park and its surrounding areas. Operated by a Community Interest Company (CIC) and supported by the Friends of Moorsbus, the website is engineered to streamline regional travel while championing sustainable, car-free tourism and rural accessibility.
As a highly functional transport hub, the site efficiently organises complex logistics into user-friendly sections:
- Timetables & Transit Planning: Clear, structured breakdowns of seasonal schedules—including dedicated Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holiday timetables—alongside integrated network route maps and connections to external public transport.
- Fares & Ticketing: Clear information detailing single journeys, child/young person discounts, and affordable Moors Rover tickets to ensure transparent pricing for all passengers.
- Destinations & "Walk & Ride": An extensive A–Z guide of towns, villages, and local attractions, featuring a dedicated section that merges bus routes with walking itineraries to help hikers make the most of the National Park.
- Community, News & Support: Interactive features including the Moorsbuzz newsletter, service updates, passenger surveys, a historical gallery, and direct pathways for memberships, volunteering, and secure donations to keep the volunteer-supported network running.
Our Design & Development Process
Our objective was to transform the Moorsbus web presence into a high-performance, visually engaging platform capable of managing dense logistical data while remaining deeply accessible to a diverse demographic. Given the collaborative, not-for-profit nature of the organisation, the new platform needed to effortlessly balance practical transport utilities with a community-centric narrative.
We chose Webflow as our core design and development framework to achieve complete creative freedom without sacrificing technical performance. A major phase of our process involved architecting a sophisticated custom Content Management System (CMS) to manage the network's complex operational assets. We designed structured collections for seasonal timetables, fare tiers, and destination points. This allows the Moorsbus team to effortlessly roll out critical service updates, update route schedules, or highlight new "MoorRewards" business partners through a seamless backend workflow, keeping information highly accurate for commuters.
From a user experience (UX) standpoint, transit sites demand exceptional clarity. We focused on an intuitive navigation hierarchy, striking typography, and clean colour blocking, allowing users to find timetables or fare information within seconds. We also prioritised a "mobile-first" philosophy; because many passengers check routes and connections while actively travelling through rural areas with variable signal strength, the Webflow code is meticulously optimised for lightning-fast load times and seamless responsiveness across all smartphones and tablets. Furthermore, we ensured the site complies with modern web accessibility standards, accommodating elderly passengers and users with varying digital proficiency.

Geat Project to Work With
Building and maintaining the Moorsbus website has been an exceptionally successful project. By leveraging Webflow’s advanced capabilities, we delivered a robust, scalable digital platform that successfully supports an essential environmental and social initiative. The seamless synthesis of complex transit schedules with an elegant, responsive interface has significantly enhanced the passenger experience. Collaborating with an organisation dedicated to fostering a greener, more connected society has made this a profoundly rewarding project, and we are proud to continue maintaining a digital infrastructure that keeps the Moorsbus moving forward.
