Website Overview: Eggleston Parish Council

The official website for Eggleston Parish Council (www.egglestonparishcouncil.gov.uk) serves as a modern, transparent, and highly accessible digital hub for the residents and visitors of Eggleston in County Durham. Positioned as the "gateway to the dales," the website elegantly bridges the gap between local government transparency and community storytelling, catering to a rural parish of just over 420 residents. The website has a compliant .gov.uk domain name and is designed to the right standards.

The site is intuitively structured into core pillars:

  • Council & Governance: A centralised repository designed to fulfil public sector compliance, giving users seamless access to meeting agendas, minutes, financial declarations, policy documents, and councillor information.
  • Community & Culture: Sections dedicated to the parish profile, local history, and maps that showcase the rich heritage of the area, alongside dedicated pages for the Village Hall and Carnival Committee.
  • News & Resources: A vibrant area for village newsletters, community event updates, galleries of historic and modern photographs, and helpful external links for local walking routes and Durham County Council services.

Our Design & Development Process

Our journey began with a clear objective: to replace the council’s legacy web presence with a sophisticated, compliant platform that honours Eggleston's distinct rural charm while meeting stringent modern web standards. Because public sector websites demand high levels of transparency and structure, we collaborated closely with the council to ensure the new architecture prioritised clarity and ease of navigation above all else. It has been built to meet accessibility standards and has a very high accessibility score of 95%.

We selected Webflow and Relume as the foundational platform for this project, allowing us to build a completely bespoke user interface free from the rigid constraints of standard templates. One of the primary technical focuses was to create a robust, intuitive website tailored specifically to the council’s administrative workflow. Since parish councils must regularly publish time-sensitive statutory materials—such as meeting agendas, minutes, and transparency audit codes—I provide a website updating service including document uploading and management. This keeps the site continuously updated and legally compliant without disrupting the front-end design.

From a visual and user experience (UX) standpoint, we focused heavily on clean typography, generous whitespace, and high-contrast colour palettes. This ensures maximum readability across a broad demographic, including older residents. The design is completely responsive, scaling beautifully and loading rapidly on everything from desktop computers to mobile smartphones. We also adhered closely to strict public sector accessibility guidelines, ensuring that finding local council information or exploring village history is an effortless experience for everyone.

A Good Example

Ultimately, designing, building, and maintaining the Eggleston Parish Council website has been an incredibly successful and rewarding project. By combining custom design aesthetics with a powerful, easy-to-manage backend, we delivered a secure, fully compliant .gov.uk website that the community can truly rely on. The positive feedback from the parish clerk and local residents alike underscores the project's success, and we take great pride in providing ongoing maintenance to ensure the site remains a vital, polished resource for the parish for years to come.
