A New Website for Marwood Parish Council

You can visit the website at marwoodparishcouncil.gov.uk.

It's always great to work on a project that has a clear purpose — helping a local community stay informed and connected — and this one was no different.

Who is Marwood Parish Council?

Marwood is a small but distinctive parish nestled in the heart of Teesdale, bordering and including part of the historic market town of Barnard Castle. The parish covers both rural and urban areas, including High Riggs and the Castle Vale Estate, and has around 755 registered electors across its Rural and Urban wards.

The council itself is made up of a small team of four volunteer elected councillors, with a Chair and Vice Chair elected annually. Like many parish councils, they do important work quietly and without much fuss — managing local governance, attending to planning matters, and keeping residents in the loop on everything happening in the area.

Their new website needed to reflect that: straightforward, useful, and easy for local people to navigate.

What Does the Website Include?

The site has been built to give residents everything they need in one place. Key sections include:

  • Parish Notices — timely updates on community news, events, and council decisions
  • News & Letters — a running record of developments and correspondence within the parish
  • Meeting Dates, Agendas & Minutes — so residents can follow or attend council meetings
  • Councillors — details about who represents the community
  • Planning Applications — documents relating to local planning matters
  • Legal Documents & Audited Accounts — full transparency on council governance and finances
  • Local History — a look at the rich heritage of Marwood, from its medieval roots to landmarks like the Langley Viaduct
  • Gallery — a visual celebration of the parish and its community
  • Useful Links — connections to local organisations and services
  • Contact Details — easy ways to get in touch with the council

The site also includes an Accessibility Statement, keeping the council in line with public sector website accessibility requirements.

How Was It Built?

The website was designed and developed using Webflow — our platform of choice here at Pennine Websites. Webflow allows us to build fully responsive, high-performance websites that look great whether you're browsing on a smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer.

It's also a platform that makes ongoing maintenance much more straightforward, which matters a great deal for an organisation like a parish council, where content — meeting dates, agendas, minutes, and notices — needs to be updated regularly and promptly.

The design is clean and professional, giving the council a proper digital presence befitting a public body, while keeping things accessible and easy to use for local residents of all ages.

Keeping the Website Up to Date

One of the most important things for any parish council website is that it stays current. Residents rely on it for accurate information about upcoming meetings, planning applications, and local notices — information that can change quickly.

That's where our Website Updating Service comes in. Here at Pennine Websites, we offer ongoing support to handle everything from minor content tweaks to more significant changes, so the council can focus on doing what they do best — serving their community — rather than worrying about the website.

We already manage websites for other parish councils in the area, including Eggleston Parish Council, and we understand the specific needs of these organisations: responsiveness, reliability, and a friendly point of contact when updates are needed in a hurry.

Could We Help Your Parish Council or Local Organisation?

If you're involved with a parish council, community group, or local organisation and your website needs a refresh — or you don't have one yet — we'd love to have a chat.

At Pennine Websites, based in Barnard Castle, we specialise in building and maintaining websites for businesses, non-profits, and public sector organisations across the North East. We offer clear, straightforward pricing and a personal service you won't get from a faceless agency.

Get in touch at penninewebsites.com — we're always happy to talk through your ideas, with no obligation.

“We have depended on Jamie so many times since we were first introduced to him in 2015. He is always patient and polite, even when we make mistakes with our website content, and we have asked his advice about other computer and Internet issues, too. He is a fountain of knowledge about how we can develop, and has moved us on to new systems as new website products become available. Website changes and updates are always completed promptly, which makes using the site with social media so much easier. We are very happy with our website, which attracts compliments every year.”
